The cabarets, theatres, and concert halls of the Azerbaijani capital city of Baku offer a huge repertoire of performances and entertainments. One of the biggest venues is the Heydar-Aliyev Palace, which regularly presents concerts and shows of all kinds. “Victory Day” is a national Azerbaijani holiday celebrating triumph over facism in the Second World War and which is also dedicated to the departed head of state Heydar Aliyev, Gerriets realized this in cooperation with Heydar Aliyev Foundation a scenery reflecting the country’s history.
As a result from preliminary talks with stage designer Hartmut Schörghofer and video designer Momme Hinrichs a frame had to be designed from box trusses in mountainous shape with a total width of 20.00 m and a height of 9.50 m.
This “truss mountain” had to be installed at an especially adapted steel structure at the upper stage allowing to be displaced up to 7.00 m horizontally forth and back including the truss frame. This had been realized by four gear motors and polyamide rolls.
Additionally, this mountain – being designed as hyper-dimensional cyclorama – should, in combination with a soft-edge projection with Christie LX-120 LCD projectors, create a flexibly actuating scenery backdrop. Therefore a ShowLED ANIMATION curtain with approx. 60 RGB LED’s per m² was hung onto the rear belt of the truss and furthermore the new Gerriets TRANSMISSION projection screen served as a light diffuser at the front belt on the truss.
The chronological input was created in cooperation with the company Lighting Innovation via Arkaos Media Master Software.
