From 1st May – 31st October 2010 the People’s Republic of China hosts the world’s biggest-ever trade exposition. Themed "Better Cities, Better Life," the Expo spotlights sustainable urban development practices and is expected to draw 70 million visitors.
The Shanghai metropolis, China’s largest city, has devoted a site approximately 5.28 square kilometers (about 2 square miles) to the Expo, where nearly 200 countries are represented in booths and buildings. Sixty individually designed pavilions showcase nations and corporations around the world.
Germany’s pavilion, christened “Balancity,“ takes visitors on a journey through thematic areas representing different ideas for a better life in a better city. A key element of this exhibition is a seemingly cave-like passageway created by special projections on two Gerriets OPTILUX high-quality rear-projection screens.
Switzerland’s pavilion features a continual series of slow, sweeping, expansive views of the Swiss Alps. This projected exhibition was specially adapted from a high-definition film to be shown using special projectors on a huge, curved, custom-designed screen from Gerriets. The projection screen is OPERA® creamy white micro-perforated and measures 17.6 meters wide by 10.75 meters high.
For the Austrian pavilion, which presents a multimedia exhibition showcasing key aspects of the country’s demography and geography, Gerriets provided an assortment of projection screens and textiles for video projections that are shown on the walls as well as ceilings and floors.
