Acte sans Paroles, Samuel Beckett

Directed by David Humeau and Yvon Lapous, "Catastrophe", "Fragment de théâtre" and "Acte sans Paroles" form a triptych in which choreography, text and visual theater merge. In these plays, written between 1956 and 1982, Samuel Beckett questions the absurd and the complexity of human existence with radicalism and humor.
The burlesque and silent ballet of the play "Acte sans Paroles", for which Gerriets made the stage cloth out of CORFU PLUS, shows a lonely figure trying to grab objects that slip away from him in a moving environment.

Project

For the set of the play "Acte sans Paroles" by Samuel Beckett, which is set in a desert and thus in a space with excessive exposure to light, set designer Tim Northam chose CORFU PLUS stage cloth for its pristine white and its non-slip coating, which gives it a beautiful sheen and excellent traction. Another important benefit of CORFU PLUS carpet for the set designer was that it lays flat, yet "can be rolled up, unrolled, folded and carried several times during the performance."
Contrasts between light and dark areas, soft or bright lighting effects, a successful staging and presentation thanks to the CORFU PLUS carpet, the white carpet pad at the heart of this creation:

  • Production of a CORFU PLUS stage cloth in the colour white with the dimensions 6.50 m x 4.00 m (two webs sewn horizontally with a belt sewn on the back to maintain the flatness of the carpet despite the seam).

DISCOVER YOUR LOVER
Freiburg University of Music
Freiburg / Germany

In the three short operas selected for the production of Freiburg University of Music, the search for love and recognition, but also marital problems, affairs, distance and alienation are the focus of the narrative: from the glamorously snobbish big-city life of the fine lady Amelia around 1890, to the emotional world of two unhappily married couples who meet regularly to play bridge, to Bernstein's caricature of staid American suburban life in "Trouble in Tahiti", which he wrote during his honeymoon.

On stage, solitary pedestals set the scene for the singers and thus reinforce the impression of self-centredness and the distancing from each other that some of them are trying to overcome. The specially designed ELBA PLUS stage cloth continues the big city backdrop on the stage floor, allowing the background and foreground to merge. This flowing transition all the way to the orchestra pit creates an effect of depth and places the singers at the centre of the action instead of merely placing them in front of it.

The ELBA PLUS stage cloth was designed by the paint shop of the Freiburg Theatre, whose staff were enthusiastic about the material's ease of use and diverse design possibilities.
