Gerriets AqFlex® successfully used at ESC 2014

Umkirch, 16. June 2014

This year's Euro Vision Song Contest has been on everyone’s radar. This was certainly the case at Gerriets where the event became a big issue. At relatively short notice Gerriets produced 8,000 m² of the new Gerriets AqFlex® absorber system, which was installed in the old Copenhagen hangar for the Contest.

By using the membrane absorber, which has proved to be particularly effective on bass frequencies, the reverberation time was reduced from 13 seconds to less than 4. Through the use of of the AqFlex® absorber system it was possible to stage a huge musical event with great sound in an acoustically difficult surrounding.

Respected acoustician Eddie Brixen revealed that everybody taking part in the contest was extremely pleased with the results of using the Aqflex® system and want to use it again at future events. Gerriets supplied a total of 60,000 m² of duvetyn and 150 pieces of AqFlex® (50 sections 48 m in length were used on the roof and about 100 sections of 25 m and 35 m in length on the walls). Once all of this was taken into consideration at the B & W hall, reverberation times of less than 3 seconds were measured in most areas, and in the lower bass frequencies times did not exceed 4 seconds. Tobias, the PA sound operator at DR (Danish Radio), was very satisfied with the result, particularly when the auditorium was full.

For temporary events such as the Euro Vision Song Contest, the absorber system can be installed in a pre-inflated version. If the flexible acoustic membranes are used permanently, the system is equipped with a controllable air supply, so that the absorber can be switched on and off by the simple press of a button.
