The architecture magazines AIT and xia Intelligente Architektur award Gerriets with the ‘Innovation Award ARCHITECTURE + OFFICE 2016’

In conjunction with ORGATEC 2016, the architecture magazines AIT and xia Intelligente Architektur have awarded Gerriets with a ‘Special Distinction’ for the kinetic acoustic solution ‘OFFICE Sound Reduction Curtain’ and the highly absorbent fabric ‘ABSORBER LIGHT’.

The design and architecture competition was created in order to reward solutions and products in a wide and varied market, which respond to the specific demands and requirements of architects. Important assessment criteria are the variety of possible applications, design and functional quality as well as the technical component of the innovation (cf. AIT).

The kinetic acoustic solution ‘OFFICE Sound Reduction Curtain’ allows for the multifunctional use of a room. The 5- to 12-layer sound curtains are made from a special sound absorbent textile and represent a further development of the classic theatre sound curtain. The intelligent combination of different fabrics and the low weight per unit area effect a sound isolation of up to 26 dB.

The acoustic fabric ‘ABSORBER LIGHT’ opens up completely new possibilities and constitutes the beginning of a new textile generation - enhanced acoustics while at the same time retaining a light and airy feel. The translucent yet highly absorbent fabric uses micro perforations within the weave to absorb sound.

The judging panel was of the opinion that the Gerriets products ‘ABSORBER LIGHT’ and ‘OFFICE Sound Reduction Curtain’ provided a simple, effective and advanced method to create acoustic divisions within the work environment. With the touch of a button – visually striking conference islands, think tanks and quiet zones can be created. By using their sophisticated track systems in conjunction with the huge range of textiles made up at their in house production facility, the panel were in total agreement that Gerriets deserved this award (cf. AIT).
