Rising from the Ruins
The Isaac Theatre Royal has returned to its former glory

Umkirch, 23. March 2016

In November 2014   the theatregoers of Christchurch N.Z. celebrated the reopening of the Isaac Theatre Royal.

A major earthquake in 2011 destroyed the majority of the hundred year old building with the worst affected area being the auditorium which was reduced to rubble.

The new theatre features a main curtain which has been designed and manufactured by John Herber Ltd. They are a subsidiary of Gerriets and are based in New Zealand. The curtain is 9m high and 12m wide and is made from wine red MALAGA CS velour which was supplied by Gerriets in Germany. In addition to the main curtain John Herber Ltd provided new drapes for the Royal Boxes and balconies to complete the new look auditorium.

The Isaac Theatre Royal has now been restored to its former glory. The restoration remains true to its original 1907 style and design. New earthquake resistant building techniques were a high priority in the new construction, ensuring that the people of Christchurch will be able to visit the venue for many years to come.
