The FENCE scissor system is the result of decades of experience in processing and moving heavy theatre and opera curtains. Its innovative mechanics combine exceptionally smooth running characteristics, precise motion sequences, and maximum operational safety – ensuring an excellent opening appearance used worldwide in theatres, opera houses, and TV studios.
Since 1997, GERRIETS has supplied more than 146 scissor systems with a total length of over 3000 m worldwide.

Perfect Opening Appearance – Harmonic. Even. Reproducible.
The construction is optimised for large and heavy curtains and ensures an even pleat formation across the entire width for both Greek and Italian openings.
The system consists of a divided scissor mechanism made of aluminium or steel profiles, with shafts guided in durable, maintenance‑free plain bearings. During opening and closing, the spacing between the pleats changes automatically and evenly.
Special guides and double rollers prevent the rollers from derailing, and an integrated running surface made of abrasion‑resistant plastic ensures stable, quiet, and low‑vibration movement of the curtain.

FENCE systems operate worldwide with virtually no failures – many of them for over 30 years. Each system is fully assembled and test‑operated before delivery to ensure utmost reliability.

• Italian opening with friction‑locked drive
• Lateral guide rails for German opening with HD trolley sets for extremely quiet 3D guidance

• Decoupled hemp rope emergency drive

• Special shapes (e.g. polygonal versions for curved curtain paths)

Mechanics
• Scissor mechanism made of aluminium or steel profiles
• Scissor shafts mounted in Permaglide plain bearings
• Suspension points on every scissor cross, double rollers on every second cross
• Running rollers Ø approx. 80 mm, with ball bearings and rubber coating, abrasion‑resistant
• Noise‑damping buffer rings between bolts

Drive
• High‑performance three‑phase gear motor with rope drum drive (Greek) or compact traction drive (Italian)
• Due to compact design, drives can also be mounted on the carrier with limited installation depth
• Power: 2.2 kW (S1) or 1.5 kW (S3, Greek only)
• Pulling speed: max. 1.5 m/s per curtain section
• Supply voltage: 3 × 230/400 V AC, 50–60 Hz
• Motor brake: 1 × 230 V AC
• Second shaft end for additional encoder
• Gear limit switch according to DGUV V3 (6 positions)

Storage Area / Travel Path
• Storage space requirement: approx. 170 mm per 1 m curtain width (with 300 mm eyelet spacing)
• Precise entry and retraction even in narrow storage areas

Curtain Load
• Maximum curtain weight: according to project specification
• Spacing of scissor system suspensions: approx. every 4 m
• Curtain suspension spacing: max. approx. 30 cm

Emergency Drive
• Manual operation possible via hemp rope when control system is switched off (Greek)
• Hemp rope Ø 20 mm, does not run along during motor operation
• Double electromagnetic clutch for disengagement
• Optional: counter‑tension pulley for floor installation

Control & Cabling
• Pre‑assembled terminal box mounted on the carriers
• Terminal strip for motor, brake, gear limit switch, clutch, and motor thermal monitoring
• Customer‑side installation of motor supply lines and encoder cables
