Bottom Finishes for Drapery

Hem with Weight

Curtain weight tape is sewn into the hem. A weighted hem improves the appearance and movement of the curtain and is typically used on curtains with fullness or on track systems where the curtain will be moving. Standard hem height is 4 inches (10 cm); other hem heights and configurations are possible.

Pipe Pocket

The pipe pocket is a hem with open sides that allow a weight pipe to be inserted. Typically used on flat curtains or cycloramas. Standard pocket height is 4 inches (10 cm); other heights are possible.

Pipe Pocket with Skirt

A 4-inch (10 cm) pocket is sewn onto the back side of the curtain, with the bottom of the pocket approximately 1 inch (2.5 cm) above the bottom of the curtain so the pocket will not drag on the floor. The skirt helps mask an uneven floor and prevent light leaks.

Skirt

Sewn onto the back of the curtain, a 1-inch (2.5 cm) skirt made of durable material protects the bottom edge from tearing. It also helps prevent light leaking from behind the curtain.
