Stage Curtain Opening Styles

Traveler Curtain

A Traveler Curtain is a bi-parting style curtain that overlaps in the center and moves stage left and stage right, usually stacking off stage behind the proscenium arch. One of the most common openings for theaters without a fly system.

Guillotine Curtain

A Guillotine Curtain lifts directly up above the stage. It can be sewn as one large curtain or made in two smaller overlapping panels. One of the most common curtain openings in theaters with a fly system.

Tab Curtain

A Tab Curtain is made in two overlapping panels that lift diagonally creating two beautiful swags that act as a decorative valance when the curtain is in its open position. Typically used on main curtains.

Austrian Curtain

An Austrian Curtain, also known as a Waterfall or Festoon curtain, is very ornate and beautiful. It is sewn with both horizontal and vertical fullness to create vertical panels of swags that lift up evenly via motorized lift lines.

Contour Curtain

A Contour Curtain has individually operated lift lines that allow independent movement of each panel. This type of curtain has horizontal fullness, but may or may not have vertical fullness. The look is reminiscent of old Hollywood movie palaces.

Wagner Curtain

Curtain panels lift diagonally to reveal two small swags at the top corners of the proscenium arch.

Combination Curtain

A combination of the Guillotine and the Tab curtain style.
