Top Finishes and Fullness: Drapery Tape

Flat Curtain - No Fullness/Pleats

Flat curtains are sewn with no extra fabric, or “fullness,” only what is needed to achieve the intended size of the curtain. Unless otherwise specified, European standard grommet/eyelet spacing is 8 inches (20 cm) on center; U.S. is 12 inches (30 cm) on center.

Gathered Pleats with Curtain Hooks

This style is formed by sewing the fabric into pleats, each of which is then sewn onto a curtain hook. The hooks are then attached to drapery tape. The distance between pleats and the fullness of the pleats is easily adjusted. This style is used on lightweight curtains such as sheers and netting.

Gathered Triple Pleats (100% Fullness)

Integrating three separate pull cords into the curtain tape creates a gathered triple pleat that results in 100% fullness. This style is suitable for lightweight curtains such as sheers and netting.

Gathered Double Pleats (80% to 100% Fullness)

Using two separate pull cords into the curtain tape creates a gathered double pleat that results in 80% to 100% fullness. This style is suitable for lightweight curtains such as sheers and netting.

Shirred Pleats

Special shirring tape allows for consistent gathering across the entire curtain and results in a multitude of very small pleats of varying fullness. Curtain hook attachments can be positioned anywhere along the shirring tape. Best results with light fabric.
