Visual spectacle and artistic innovation in contemporary ballet

For the world premiere of Maslow’s Peak by Philadelphia’s renowned contemporary ballet company, BalletX, Gerriets provided a key scenic element that helped bring the production’s powerful visual language to life. The premiere took place at The Wilma Theater in Philadelphia, a venue recognised for its bold, interdisciplinary stage productions.

Maslow’s Peak explores the psychological and emotional dimensions of human desire and fulfilment, taking inspiration from Abraham Maslow’s hierarchy of needs. Combining expressive dance with multimedia stage design, the production explored themes of aspiration, vulnerability, and transcendence.

To support this innovative artistic vision, Gerriets supplied a custom-made OPTIBLACK 2.2 projection screen. Designed for high-contrast image projection, the OPTIBLACK 2.2 screen enables vivid, crisp visuals while preserving deep black levels, even under complex lighting setups. This significantly enhanced the immersive quality of the performance, allowing projections to blend seamlessly with the choreography and lighting.
