Curtain Seams

Open Seam

The standard seam in curtain manufacturing. Fabric panels are joined together at the selvage edge by a single stitch. If the type of seam is not specified the open seam is assumed.

Overcast Seam

The standard open seam is refined by serging together the two small selvage edges to produce an external flap. This helps to eliminate fraying and minimize shadows in sheer or net curtains.

Flat Felled Seam

The open seam is strengthened by turning one of the selvage edges and stitching it down flat. This style seam is used when the curtain will be seen from both sides.

Double Overlap Seam

The open seam is modified by turning both of the selvage edges and interlocking them by stitching them down flat. This style seam is useful when the curtain will be seen from both sides.
